Lilo's Bed Design

©Disney
Being assigned to do the bed design for Lilo & Stitch, rather than going on a field trip to Hawaii, I ended up driving myself to a Rooms To Go Kids along Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. I went straight to the bedroom showroom and started sketching. The idea of a messy bed full of stuff came from our Production Designer Paul Felix. The bed reflects Lilo's personality of being playful and different. Here are my five bed design sketches Bed 2 was the one approved.

Hey Armand,

Great bed designs and nice to see the different variations. Do you have a preference when it comes to what mediums you use, or does that completely depend on what you're drawing, amount of detail etc.?

Couldn't you have found a Rooms To Go on Hawaii !!!;)

Thanks for sharing and have a great day,

Hans

Hi Hans,

Actually my preference depends on what I feel like using at the moment and availability. There are several combination techniques that work for me in the past for example: prisma on vellum (sometimes with different marker values at the back), charcoal on smooth newsprint, blue col-erase pencil before staedler graphite, combinations of HB, 2B and 4B pencils, etc. But you're right, consideration is given on the amount of detail and size of the artwork. But I always make it a point not to stick with these formulas and enjoy what medium is at hand. Flexibility is the name of the game. Thanks and hope this helps.

Hey Armand,

Thanks for taking the time to share your knowlegde and techniques, it's a great help:) I just posted my third piece done with black prismacolor on vellum. I'm constantly trying to improve myself and would highly appreciate any feedback you can give.

Thanks again and have a great weekend,
